101 — Child Visa (Subclass 101)

The Child visa (subclass 101) grants permanent residence to a child outside Australia whose parent is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or qualifying New Zealand citizen. The child must be under 18, or aged 18–25 and enrolled full-time, or over 18 with a disability and single and dependent.

The visa is permanent from grant, conferring full work and study rights and access to Medicare. The application fee is AUD 4,040. Both application and grant must occur while the child is offshore. Processing typically takes 22–28 months.

This visa is ideal for children of Australian permanent residents or citizens who live abroad and need a direct, permanent pathway to join their parent in Australia.
