The Resident Return visa (subclasses 155 and 157) lets Australian permanent residents and former citizens renew their travel facility once the original five-year entitlement expires. Without it, travelling abroad after expiry means losing the right to re-enter as a permanent resident.
Subclass 155 requires 730 days of Australian presence in the past five years, or substantial ties (business, employment, or personal) and grants a five-year facility. Subclass 157 covers compelling cases with a three-month facility. Applicants lodge separately; the visa is renewable with full work rights.
This visa is ideal for Australian permanent residents and former citizens who need to travel internationally without losing their residency status.
