The Long-Term Work Permit is designed for foreign nationals who have secured employment with a registered company in Barbados for an extended period, typically valid for up to three years. This permit is employer-sponsored, meaning the company in Barbados must initiate the application process on behalf of the employee. A central requirement for this permit is the 'labor market test,' where the employer must provide evidence that they have attempted to recruit locally and that no qualified Barbadian citizen or permanent resident is available to fill the specific role.

This permit is intended for professionals, skilled workers, and specialists whose expertise is required by the local economy. Because it is a long-term authorization, the application process is rigorous, requiring medical reports, character references, and proof of professional credentials. Once approved, the permit allows the holder to reside and work in Barbados for the duration of the permit's validity. After the three-year term, the employer may apply for a renewal if the employment relationship continues and the business needs remain.
