Form IX — Special Permit

The Special Permit is a unique immigration authorization granted by the Director of Immigration to non-Bahamian nationals who are currently listed on the country's 'Restricted List.' This list primarily consists of individuals who have been previously deported or removed from The Bahamas. Because these individuals are generally barred from entering the country, the Special Permit serves as a strictly controlled, case-by-case exception, allowing them to enter for a specific, authorized purpose. It is a discretionary measure, and the granting of such a permit is not guaranteed, as each application is reviewed on its individual merits by immigration authorities.

When a Special Permit is issued, it is typically valid for a maximum duration of 28 days, though the exact length is determined at the discretion of the Director of Immigration based on the stated purpose of the visit. The application process requires a non-refundable processing fee of USD 200 and the submission of comprehensive supporting documentation, including a formal letter of request, a recent police certificate, and character references. Holders of a Special Permit must carry the document on their person at all times during their stay and are required to surrender it to immigration officials upon their departure from The Bahamas.
