The Visa touristique, or tourist visa, is designed for foreign nationals visiting the Republic of the Congo specifically for leisure, sightseeing, or private visits. This visa grants travelers the legal authorization to enter the country through designated ports, such as international airports or maritime entry points, for a limited period. It is intended for those whose primary objective is to explore the country's cultural and natural attractions or to visit friends and family. The visa does not authorize the holder to engage in any paid professional activities or employment while in the country. It is a fundamental requirement for most international visitors, ensuring that their stay is tracked and regulated by the Congolese immigration authorities.

Applicants for the tourist visa must provide a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity and must submit two fully completed and signed visa application forms. The fee structure is differentiated by nationality, with U.S. citizens typically charged $160, while non-U.S. citizens are charged $200. It is crucial for applicants to submit their applications to an accredited Congolese consulate well before their departure date, as visas are not issued upon arrival. Travelers should also be prepared to provide evidence of their travel itinerary, proof of accommodation, and sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay.
