Residence permit for participants in approved volunteer programmes in Finland, valid for up to 1 year per grant.
The Volunteering Residence Permit allows non-EU nationals to participate in organized volunteer programmes in Finland. Issued by Migri, it is designed for volunteers in approved schemes such as European Solidarity Corps or ICYE Finland who have documented financial support for accommodation, meals, and pocket money through their host organization.
The permit grants a maximum of one year per grant and is renewable if volunteering continues. Application fees are EUR 530 (electronic) or EUR 630 (paper) for first permits; extended permits cost EUR 230 (electronic) or EUR 430 (paper). Restricted to approved voluntary work only—no paid employment is permitted. Processing typically takes one month, with up to three months in minority of cases.
This visa is ideal for young volunteers and career-changers from outside the EU who want to contribute to Finnish society through structured, non-profit initiatives while building international experience.
