Diplomat (外交)

The Japan Diplomat visa (外交) is granted to constituent members of diplomatic missions or consular offices of foreign governments hosted by Japan, and to those accorded equivalent privileges and immunities under international treaties or customary practice. Family members of the same household are also qualifying.

Stay is granted for the duration of the official mission. The visa is fee-exempt and coordinates directly between the sending government and Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, typically requiring a note verbale and official documentation of the assignment.

This visa is ideal for accredited diplomatic agents, consular officers, heads of state, and their household dependents assigned to an official mission in Japan.
