Overview

This visa is issued to foreign patients wishing to visit Japan for medical purposes and their accompanying person(s).

Japan's Medical Stay visa covers foreign patients seeking treatment, check-ups, surgery, dental care, or recuperation, including accompanying carers. All applicants must engage a registered guarantor — a medical coordinator or travel agency — who arranges the treatment plan and letter of guarantee.

Stay duration — 90 days, 6 months, or 1 year — is set by clinical condition. Visits over 90 days require a Certificate of qualification obtained through the hospital. Multiple-entry visas are available for repeat treatment if each visit is 90 days or less. No work is permitted; there is no PR pathway.

This visa is ideal for foreign patients travelling to Japan for medical treatment or check-ups, and their accompanying family members or carers.
