The Transit Visa (TR-B3) is a specialized short-stay authorization intended for foreign travelers who are passing through Laos while en route to a third country. This visa is designed for individuals who need to enter the country briefly during a layover or as part of their travel itinerary but do not intend to stay for tourism or business purposes. It allows for a single entry and a limited duration of stay, typically up to five days, which is non-extendable. This classification ensures that travelers moving between international destinations can legally enter Laos for a very short period to facilitate their onward journey without requiring a full tourist or business visa.

To be qualifying for the Transit Visa, applicants must present proof of their onward travel, such as a confirmed flight, bus, or train ticket to their final destination. Additionally, they may be required to show a valid visa for the country they are entering next, if applicable, along with proof of sufficient funds to cover their short stay. The application must be supported by a passport with at least six months of remaining validity and at least one blank page for the visa stamp. As this visa is strictly for transit, holders are prohibited from engaging in any work, study, or business activities during their time in Laos.
