YPOP — Young Professional Occupation Permit (YPOP)

The Young Professional Occupation Permit (YPOP) is a specialized work and residence permit created to retain international talent by allowing foreign graduates who have completed their studies in Mauritius to enter the local job market. This permit is granted for a maximum period of three years, depending on the length of the employment contract, and serves as a bridge for students transitioning from an academic environment to professional employment in the country. It reflects Mauritius's commitment to fostering a knowledge-based economy by leveraging the skills developed within its own tertiary institutions.

To be qualifying, applicants must have successfully completed at least an undergraduate degree at a tertiary education institution in Mauritius recognized by the Higher Education Commission. The application requires a job offer with a minimum monthly basic salary of MUR 25,000, and the application fee is USD 50. This permit must be applied for within six months of the publication of degree results. The YPOP provides a valuable opportunity for young professionals to gain international work experience in Mauritius, with the potential to transition to a standard Professional Occupation Permit if their employment continues beyond the YPOP duration.
