The Nepal Work Visa (Employment Visa) is a mandatory legal authorization for foreign nationals intending to engage in professional employment within the country. This visa is strictly regulated and is only issued to individuals who have secured a legitimate job offer from a government-recognized organization or registered entity in Nepal. Foreigners typically enter the country on a tourist visa and must undergo a comprehensive administrative process to transition their status to a working non-tourist visa. This process is designed to ensure that the hiring organization has followed local labor laws, including demonstrating that the specific role could not be filled by a qualified Nepali national, thereby protecting the local labor market while allowing for necessary foreign expertise.

To obtain this visa, applicants must provide a robust set of documentation, including a valid work permit issued by the Department of Labour and Occupational Safety, a formal employment contract, and a recommendation letter from the relevant government line ministry. Additional requirements often include a work agreement from the Ministry of Home Affairs, proof of the employer's tax compliance, and, for NGOs/INGOs, a general agreement with the Social Welfare Council. The visa is subject to a fee of USD 75 per month, with options for additional single or multiple re-entry facilities.
