Overview

Transitory residence for remote workers earning foreign-source income; 180 days, extendable once for a further 180 days.

Argentina's Digital Nomad Visa is a transitory residence under Disposicion DNM 758/2022, created in 2022 to authorize remote work for foreign employers or clients while resident in the country.

The permit lasts 180 days and can be extended once for a further 180 days, for a maximum stay of one year. The current migration fee is USD 600 (extra-MERCOSUR) or USD 300 (MERCOSUR), and foreign income is generally outside Argentine tax scope for the duration.

This visa is ideal for remote employees, freelancers, and consultants from visa-exempt countries who want a legal, low-friction base in Buenos Aires or other Argentine cities without seeking permanent residency.

Advantages & Considerations

Key Benefits

  • Legal residence for up to 360 days (180 + 180 extension) with multiple entries.
  • Foreign-source income generally outside Argentine tax scope during the transitory stay.
  • Three filing channels: pre-arrival TIE 24H, consular, or in-country DNM.
  • No fixed minimum income threshold; flexible proof-of-activity documentation.
  • Open to remote workers from all visa-exempt countries.

Worth Knowing

  • Transitory category does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship.
  • Cannot work for Argentine-domiciled employers or clients.
  • Migration fee raised to USD 600 (extra-MERCOSUR) from January 2026.
  • Foreign documents must be apostilled or legalized and translated into Spanish.
  • Staying past 12 months may trigger Argentine tax residency.

Application Process

1

Confirm qualification: nationality must be visa-exempt for Argentine tourist entry (or MERCOSUR with travel document).

2

Gather documents: passport, CV, work contract / income evidence, criminal record from country of origin, recent photo.

3

Choose route: (a) pre-arrival TIE 24H electronic authorization online, or (b) consular visa via an Argentine consulate, or (c) in-person filing with DNM after entry.

4

Pay the migration fee (tasa migratoria) — USD 600 extra-MERCOSUR / USD 300 MERCOSUR, via Provincia NET.

5

Enter Argentina and present authorization at immigration control (if TIE 24H).

6

If applying in country: obtain Argentine criminal record certificate and proof of address, then file with DNM in person.

7

Receive 180-day transitory residence; apply for the 180-day extension before expiry if continuing to reside.
