116 — Carer Visa

The Subclass 116 Carer visa grants permanent residency in Australia to people who relocate to provide substantial, ongoing care for a relative with a long-term medical condition. Applicants must be outside Australia at both application and grant, sponsored by a qualifying Australian resident relative.

The visa is permanent on grant, with full work, study, and Medicare access. Dependants may be included in the application. Processing is subject to annual quotas and capping; queue waits alone can exceed 4.5 years. A second instalment of AUD 2,065 is payable before grant.

This visa is ideal for people outside Australia who are the only viable carer for a relative with a serious, long-term medical condition and who intend to settle permanently.
