The Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143) grants permanent residence in Australia to parents of settled Australian citizens, permanent residents, or qualifying New Zealand citizens. Applicants must pass the balance-of-family test, requiring at least half of their children to live permanently in Australia.
The visa costs AUD 48,640 per person in two instalments (AUD 5,040 upfront, AUD 43,600 before grant). Processing is capped and queued, typically taking several years. Holders gain full work rights, Medicare access, and a pathway to citizenship. Applicants must be outside Australia at grant.
