771 — Transit Visa (Subclass 771)

The Transit Visa (Subclass 771) is a short-term Australian visa for travelers passing through Australia on their way to another country. It permits a maximum 72-hour stay, carries no application fee, and grants no work rights.

Applicants must hold a confirmed onward booking to a third country within 72 hours and valid entry documents for the final destination. Each traveler, including dependents, must apply separately via ImmiAccount. Processing takes 1–19 days for most applications.

This visa is ideal for international travelers who need to clear Australian immigration during a stopover but are not qualifying for transit without a visa (TWOV).
