Overview

The Bridging Visa D (Subclass 041) is an Australian emergency bridging status for unlawful non-citizens who are physically in Australia, hold no substantive visa, and cannot or will not apply for one at that time. It provides a brief window of lawful status to avoid the consequences of unlawful presence.

Valid for only 5 working days from grant, it carries no right to work (condition 8101) and no re-entry right if the holder departs. The application is free. It does not lead to permanent residence and typically precedes a Bridging Visa E (Subclass 050) if the holder needs more time to regularise their status.

This visa is ideal for individuals physically in Australia with no valid visa who need a short legal grace period to arrange departure or transition to a Bridging Visa E.
