An onshore permanent visa for aged parents to live in Australia with their children who are settled Australian citizens, permanent residents, or qualifying New Zealand citizens.
The Australian Aged Parent visa (subclass 804) is a permanent visa for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or qualifying New Zealand citizens. Applicants must be at least 67 and pass the Balance of Family test, showing more of their children live in Australia than in any other country.
The visa grants permanent residence with full work rights and Medicare access. Processing is severely restricted by an annual cap and queue — as of early 2026, new lodgements face an estimated 33-year wait. Fees are AUD 5,280 (first instalment) plus AUD 2,065 (second instalment) before grant.
This visa is ideal for aged parents already onshore in Australia who prefer the lower-cost, non-contributory pathway and are prepared for an exceptionally long wait.
