Overview

Join a family member on a qualifying primary visa in Australia.

The Australian Dependent Child visa (subclass 445) is a temporary visa for dependent children of a parent holding a temporary Partner visa (subclass 309 or 820). The child must be under 18, or if older, financially dependent and under 23, single, and meet health and character requirements.

The visa lasts until the parent's permanent Partner visa is decided, and provides work and study rights in Australia. The child must be sponsored by the same sponsor as the parent. Once the parent's permanent visa is granted, the child can apply separately for permanent status via Form 1002.

This visa is ideal for dependent children of Partner visa applicants who need temporary lawful status in Australia while their parent awaits a permanent visa decision.
