Overview

Family visa to join a spouse, civil partner, or unmarried partner settled in the UK.

The UK Spouse/Partner Visa lets foreign nationals join a partner settled in the UK — British, Irish, or ILR holders, and those with refugee or humanitarian protection. It covers married, civil-partnered, and cohabiting couples, as well as long-distance partnerships separated by work, study, or cultural constraints.

Initial grant is 2 years 9 months (6 months for fiancé/fiancée), renewable. After 5 continuous years, ILR is available. The sponsoring partner must earn at least £29,000 per year. Work is permitted from day one with no separate permit; fiancé/fiancée entrants must marry within 6 months.

This visa is ideal for foreign nationals in a genuine, legally recognised relationship with a UK-settled partner who intend to live together permanently and want a clear path to settlement.
