This visa (officially Designated Activities No. 40 for the main applicant and No. 41 for the accompanying spouse) is designed for high-net-worth individuals from visa-exempt countries to stay in Japan for extended tourism and recreation.
Japan's Designated Activities visa (No. 40/41) allows high-net-worth individuals from visa-exempt countries to stay up to one year for tourism and recreation. Applicants must hold savings equivalent to at least 30 million JPY and carry private medical travel insurance for their full stay.
Entry is granted for an initial 6-month period, extendable once to a total of 12 months. A spouse may accompany under Designated Activities No. 41 — sharing the same 30 million JPY savings threshold if residing together. No work or remote work is permitted, and there is no pathway to permanent residency.
This visa is ideal for financially independent retirees and leisure travelers from visa-exempt countries who want to spend up to one year in Japan without working.
