The Macedonian Origin Residence Permit is a specialized temporary residence pathway established under the Law on Foreigners. It was created to bridge the gap for members of the global Macedonian diaspora and their close family members who wish to reside in the country based on their ancestral ties rather than employment or study. This permit acknowledges the importance of heritage and facilitates the reintegration of individuals with Macedonian roots into the national community, providing a structured legal framework for them to live in North Macedonia.

This permit is intended for individuals of North Macedonian origin, including those who may hold citizenship of another country, as well as their immediate family members. It is distinctive because it prioritizes ancestral connection over economic or educational activity, allowing applicants to establish residency without needing a job offer. Applicants must pay a fee of EUR 100 and are required to maintain valid health insurance throughout their stay, ensuring they are self-sufficient while residing in the country.
