The Subclass 203 Emergency Rescue Visa is a permanent Australian humanitarian visa for people facing an imminent threat to life or personal security. Reserved for a small number of cases each year, it requires a UNHCR referral and is granted under the offshore Humanitarian Program.

The visa grants permanent residence immediately on arrival, with full rights to work and study. No application fee applies. Processing is expedited but still takes many months in practice. Family members can be included, and holders have unrestricted work rights from day one.
