405 — Investor Retirement visa

The Australian Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405) is for self-funded retirees aged 55 or older with no dependent children. Closed to new applicants, it is available only to existing or former holders. Applicants need state or territory government sponsorship and a designated investment of at least AUD 500,000.

The visa grants a 4-year renewable stay with multiple-entry rights. Work is capped at 40 hours per fortnight. A partner may accompany the holder. The visa does not lead to permanent residency, though holders who held it on 8 May 2018 may access a PR pathway via a parent visa.
