The Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884) allows parents of settled Australian citizens, permanent residents, or qualifying New Zealand citizens to live temporarily in Australia. Applicants must be at least 67 years old, sponsored by an Australian-resident child, and satisfy the Balance of Family test.
The visa grants a 2-year stay and is non-renewable. Fees total AUD 34,170, paid as AUD 5,040 at lodgement and AUD 29,130 before grant. Holders can apply for the permanent Subclass 864 to remain in Australia, though high demand means new applications face an estimated queue of around 15 years.
This visa is ideal for aged parents of Australian residents who want to join their family in Australia while awaiting the permanent Contributory Aged Parent visa.
