For individuals who have lived in the UK for a significant period or have strong ties, allowing a route to settlement.
The UK Private Life route lets people who have lived in the country for an extended period stay legally and work toward settlement. qualification turns on length of continuous residence: 7+ years for under-18s, half-life for 18–24s, 20 years for adults, or very significant obstacles to return.
Permission is granted for 30 months (extendable), or up to 60 months for young adults who spent half their life in the UK. The fee is £1,407 plus £1,035 per year for the Immigration Health Surcharge. Work is generally permitted; a fee waiver is available for those unable to pay.
This visa is ideal for long-term UK residents — including children and young adults — who lack another immigration route but have built substantial ties to the country over many years.
