Overview

Visa for religious workers and missionaries. For priests, pastors, monks, nuns, and other formal religious personnel dispatched by overseas religious organizations.

The Religious Activities Visa is a Japanese status of residence for foreign nationals dispatched by an overseas religious organization to conduct missionary work, preaching, religious education, or ceremonies. It covers clergy including priests, pastors, monks, nuns, and missionaries sent by a foreign institution.

Stays range from 3 months to 5 years and the visa is renewable; long-term holders may apply for permanent residence. Dependents may accompany the holder under family stay status with restricted work rights. Financial support from the dispatching organization or a Japanese sponsor is required.

This visa is ideal for ordained religious professionals formally dispatched by a foreign institution who need a renewable, long-term status in Japan.
