Overview

Six-month visitor visa for remote workers earning US$40,000+ (or US$20,000+ if aged 20-29), extendable in six-month increments up to a two-year total.

Launched 2 January 2025 by BOCA and the NDC, Taiwan's Digital Nomad Visitor Visa lets remote workers from visa-exempt countries live in Taiwan while employed abroad. Applicants 30+ need US$40,000+ annual income in one of the last two years; ages 20-29 need US$20,000. An average US$10,000/month bank balance over the last six months and international health insurance are also required.

The initial stay is 180 days, extendable in six-month blocks to a two-year total, with no ARC or PR pathway. Overseas applicants apply at an ROC mission, which forwards documents to the NDC for qualification review before consular review. In-country holders must apply 10 working days before their stay expires. Holders cannot work for a Taiwanese company.

This visa is ideal for established remote employees and freelancers from visa-waiver countries who want to base themselves in Taipei, Taichung or Kaohsiung while staying employed abroad.

Proof of remote work for a non-Taiwanese employer or freelance clients

Age 30+: annual income at least US$40,000 in one of the last two years

Age 20-29: annual income at least US$20,000 in one of the last two years

Average bank balance of at least US$10,000 per month over the last 6 months

International health and hospitalization insurance for the duration of stay

Qualification review by the National Development Council (NDC) before consular visa review

Complete the visa application form online at visawebapp.boca.gov.tw, print it, and sign

Gather required documents (passport, photos, income/savings proof, insurance, work contract)

Submit application to an ROC overseas mission (if outside Taiwan) or to BOCA/regional MOFA offices (if inside Taiwan, 10 working days before current stay expires)

Mission forwards documents to the National Development Council (NDC) for qualification review

After NDC approval, the mission completes the consular visa review

Attend an interview if requested

Receive the digital nomad visitor visa (initial stay up to 180 days)
