The UK Representative of an Overseas Business visa now applies exclusively to employees of overseas newspapers, news agencies, or broadcasting organisations posted to the UK on a long-term, full-time assignment. The Sole Representative route for general business expansion closed to new applicants in April 2022.

Permission lasts 3 years, extendable once by 2 years; indefinite leave to remain is available after 5 continuous years. No salary threshold or sponsor licence is required. Partners and children may accompany and work. Fees are £819 from abroad or £943 inside the UK, plus £1,035/year healthcare surcharge.

PUBLISHED REQUIREMENTS

Must be employed by an overseas newspaper, news agency, or broadcasting organisation

Being posted on a long-term, full-time assignment in the UK

Cannot own or control majority of the overseas organisation (Sole Rep rule, now closed)

Must not intend to work for any other employer in the UK

Sufficient funds to support yourself without recourse to public funds

English language at CEFR A1 or above (via SELT, qualifying degree, or exempt nationality)

Tuberculosis test result if applying from a listed country
